Establishment of Nematology Lab

A nematology lab has been set up at the institute with the assistance of the National Nematological Research Centre, University of Karachi. A survey was conducted for the identification of beneficial and harmful nematodes of sugarcane crop. Work on the development of biopesticides using entomopathogenic nematodes has started at the lab for the control of major sugarcane crop infesting pest.

Setting up of Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay Lab

The Sugarcane Mosaic Virus (SCMV) is among the most fatal of the diseases infecting sugarcane in Pakistan. It results in 5 and 10 percent reduction of cane yield and quality respectively. The successful completion of ELISA lab (Enzyme-Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay) at the institute will help in the efficient and reliable screening of promising varieties against mosaic and other viruses.
